eBay is a online auction site that gives users the ability to buy and sell items easily. Millions of items are sold everyday throughout the world. Items both large and small can be found on the site and prices generally are lower then retail stores. Collectibles, clothes, jewelry, electronics, books, vehicles, trips, and real estate can be found on the site. Individuals can just sell extra items in their house or can open full stores that sell thousands of items. Businesses use it to get rid of surplus and bargain shoppers can find great deals on hard to find items.
eBay was founded in San Jose, CA in September, 1995 by computer programmer Pierre Omidyar when he was trying to discard of excess items he owned. He was amazed that the items he thought were junk other people wanted to pay good money for. eBay generates revenue from each transaction made through the website and had many acquisitions of late. Including Skype for 2.6 Billion dollars in stock and cash, PayPal, and Shopping.com. Some people use it to shop, others to run a business, and still others use it to find comparisons of products they own. Currently it is working on expanding on foreign markets. It is a culture phenomenon that has transformed how we buy and sell products today. How do you use eBay.
I use eBay at work to sell the end of the month inventory so we do not lose money with products left over. It really helps us in our business.
